Emergency Food Pantry
SDFRC has an emergency food pantry that serves families in crisis in Davidson County, North Carolina. The amount of food they get is based on the number in their Family. We average serving 125 to 150 families with around 306 people each month, and giving out 198 boxes of food. This food is offered at no cost after a qualifying application is completed.
Where We Get Our Food
We receive food from many sources. SDFRC is a partner agency with Second Harvest Food Bank of NWNC, located in Winston-Salem. We receive USDA food through the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). We are also fortunate to receive salvage contributions from Food Lion, located on Highway 109, Thomasville and Lowes Foods in Denton. We also receive donations from Special Food Drives such as “Bag Childhood Hunger, “Holidays Without Hunger” and SAM’s (complete meal boxes). Our local churches are very supportive of food drives and special occasions collections, and school groups and individual donations are very important.

Clothing Closet
Our center maintains a “closet” where we have donated clothing (it may be “previously Owned and gently used” or it may be new) for all ages, genders, and sizes. We strive to keep sizes separated and items either hung or folded and grouped as to men’s, women’s, boys’, girls’ and infants’. The closet is maintained by our faithful volunteers who can assist in selection of outfits for all family members, or anyone may just browse on their own. We do have some shoes but supply depends on donations. Our clothing (as well as our food and other services) is offered free of charge to our area citizens. And as noted, all clothes have been donated and we accept donations of CLEAN, Gently Uses Clothes, shoes and small household items during our office hours—8:30am to 12:00 Noon on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Please DO NOT leave items outside while we are closed.
Emergency Financial Assistance
With our community and nation facing tremendous economic challenges and housing crisis, Family Resource Center is doing its part in helping families to avoid eviction or foreclosure through rent and mortgage assistance. When a family loses their housing, it can be a devastating situation, and we will work with clients and/or banks to help keep families in their homes. Emergencies can happen to anyone and people turn to SDFRC to help them get through bad times. If your power or water gets turned off, it can be a serious problem. Once it has been disconnected, it is harder and more expensive to get it turned back on. South Davidson Family Resource Center can help you to avoid these situations. Our resource center remains dedicated to dealing with each client, working jointly to achieve solutions. We also provide information and referrals which can connect people with resources and other agencies to help meet their needs. For emergency financial assistance, you will need to come to our office to complete an application. Call our office at 336-859-5399 for clarification. Due to funding restraints these services are limited to Southern Davidson County residents.
